Progressive Metal Music
Progressive metal (often known as prog metal) is a sub-group of heavy metal which combines the intense, guitar-driven sound of heavy metal with the complex compositions and intricate playing of progressive rock. Some prog metal bands were also influenced by jazz and classical music. Its origins trace back to the 1960s and mid-1970s from Pink Floyd, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, early Queen, Rush, and others. However, it became its own genre in the mid-1980s with bands like Rainbow, Fates Warning, and Dream Theater.
