| Meet someone else halfway, kenny loggins | | One of the main suggestions when a couple is having difficulty is that they need to better learn how to "compromise." That the husband/boyfriend needs to learn to like doing something that the wife/girlfriend enjoys doing if he expects her to do something that he likes doing.
I say compromise is bullshit.
I remember sitting around one night with my friend Seth when this topic came up out of the blue. We both laughed and agreed that neither one of us was a subscriber to the concept of compromise. His theory on it was this: "I like to make movies. She likes horses. So what? I now need to make movies about horses?"Sounds silly, but at the heart of the idea of compromise, this is the main problem. We keep telling people that they need to "meet half way." That a husband needs to do "x" amount of things and the wife needs to do "y" amount of things for them to be able to get along well.
Sure, it might work for some. Maybe some of you meek motherfuckers who have issues with speaking up. Those of you who don't know how to stick by what you want. You know, those of you who don't know how to be a stubborn piece of crap like myself.

I stand 6’2” and some change. I weigh a touch more than 275 pounds.
There are some cars out there I can’t drive.
One of them is my Dad’s Mazda Miata, but oh boy do I want to try. My Dad has a Mazda Miata M Edition ragtop and I’ve been granted the special honor to be allowed to drive it around for a few days.
“Are you sure you can drive this thing?”
Am I sure?
I’m fifty and a marginally competent man. While most days it’s hit or miss whether I leave the house with or without the fly option implemented, or if I put on matching socks, or even socks at all, I can drive a car.
What’s so hard about driving a Miata?
Absolutely nothing.
I know where the key goes.
I know how to keep it pointed relatively straight.
I drive a stick so I can roughly coordinate both feet and my right hand through the gear shifting while at the same time talking on my cell phone and drinking coffee.
Driving it is not the hard part. Getting in and out of my Dad’s Miata... now, that’s the hard part.
